Altering the function of the form from musical to visual, one sees the filtering of light through the tiny holes that are intended to activate the piano keys. Five hundred rice paper apple blossom petals were glued to the roll to represent both sorrowful and blissful tears. Just as the piano roll serves as the template for the activation of the keyboard, the inner conceptualization guides the hand of the composer, the writer and the artist, and so the inner design is made manifest to the audience, the reader, and the viewer. That internal blueprint is critical to the finished product, whether in living a life or creating a work of art.
