Winner in the Spring 2011 Study Abroad Photo Contest - Celebrations category.
This picture was taken during the carnevale in Venice, Italy. During Carnevale in Venice there is a parade of boats down the Grand Canal that marks the start of the festivities. The huge gondolas are usually brightly decorated and the rowers are dressed in elaborate costumes and masks. We waited eagerly with the crowds to see the first boat come and cheered for our favorites.
