Award Description

Ray Berger’s graduation from Illinois Wesleyan in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in history marked not only the fulfillment of an IWU college experience, but the beginning of a life-long relationship with his alma mater. Embarking on a four-decade career in retailing, he was able to live in and enjoy the cities of New York, Chicago and San Francisco, maintaining his connection to IWU through regular involvements which include founding and leading both the Chicago and the San Francisco Regional Alumni Associations. Ray’s many contributions to IWU, regardless of changes in cities and companies include involvement at all levels, from attending and hosting alumni events to serving on committees such as the Capital Campaign Committees in both San Francisco and Chicago, Class of 1970 Reunion Committee, and IWU Golf Outing Committee. He has also served on the Executive Board of the Alumni Association since its revival nine years ago and was the first co-chair of the new Pride Alumni Community. Ray now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is retired.
