Award Description

Matthews, who received an IWU degree in speech, entered the broadcasting field immediately after graduation. He worked for radio station WJBC, Bloomington, WMBD-TV and radio, Peoria, and KMOX-TV, St. Louis. He was hired by the Kansas City Royals baseball team in 1969 for radio and television work as play-by-play announcer. Last year he was chosen as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. At Wesleyan, he was secretary of Sigma Chi, and won letters in baseball and football. (Titan Times, Dec 1973, p. 1)
