Award Description

Dr. Ann Stroink '76, a Bloomington neurosurgeon, and her husband, Dr. David Skillrud '76, a pulmonologist practicing in Bloomngton, Pontiac and Eureka, IL, have been named co-winners of the Robert M. Montgomery Outstanding Young Alumni Award given annually to alumni under the age of 35 in recognition of professional achievement, civic leadership, or both. Dr. Skillrud, who was valedictorian of his Bloomington High School class, completed his college work in three years and was graduated from Wesleyan with a summma cum laude degree. Dr. Elmer '35 and Midge Beadles '34 Dr. Stroink 76 Dr. Skillrud '76 chemistry. He was also captain of his Titan tennis team. Dr. Stroink graduated magna cum laude in biology. Both attended Southern Illinois University's Medical School in Springfield, IL, receiving their medical degrees in 1979. Both received internship and residency appointments to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, he in internal medicine and she in neurological surgery. Dr. Skillrud received a three-year Mayo fellowship in thoracic disease, and Dr. Stroink was a fellow in pediatric neurosurgery in 1985 at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Both have published numerous papers on their medical specialties, and are members of several scientific societies.
