A Campus in Wartime: Experiences of the IWU Community

From its founding in 1850, the Illinois Wesleyan campus community has witnessed several major conflicts, starting with the Civil War and leading to the more recent War in Afghanistan. The effects of war on the university included shifts in enrollment, on-campus military instruction, antiwar protests, and memorializing those lost through dedications of new campus buildings. The objects highlighted below shed light on the many war-related experiences of the IWU community.
