Donna Brandt

In this 2018 oral history interview, Donna Maurer '44 (née Brandt) describes her memories of the campus reaction to Pearl Harbor and the subsequent enrollment of her classmates in World War II. Following her graduation, she worked for a short time at a factory tasked with manufacturing parts for the war effort. She married shortly after graduation and just one day later, her husband, Marvin Maurer, was commissioned in the U.S. Navy. In her interview, she also recollects the night of the Hedding Hall fire in 1943. As a student at IWU, she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, the Women's Sports Association, the Home Economics Club, and the Red Cross.
