Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. visited campus twice - once in 1961 and once in 1966. His first visit, sponsored by the Religious Activities, included a speech at Memorial Center.
During his second visit on Feb. 10, 1966, King, hosted by the Student Senate's Convocation Commission, presented the speech displayed here at Fred Young Fieldhouse. Just two years after King received the Nobel Peace Prize, this return visit promised to draw larger crowds, necessitating the bigger space at the Fieldhouse. In this speech, King outlined the progress that had been realized by the Civil Rights Movement, but recognized that activists still had more work to do. Listen to the full speech below. The full transcript of King's speech follows the recording on this page.
