The Council for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETAL) serves to support teaching and learning at IWU by fostering the pedagogical development of faculty. Its functions include identifying high-impact teaching methods and best practices in teaching and learning, organizing and coordinating workshops and faculty development initiatives pertaining to pedagogy, coordinating with the Center for Engaged Learning leadership on matters related to student engagement and success, among other activities. CETAL will also advise the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Instruction on matters related to teaching and learning.

Faculty approved the change from appointive to elective committee at the December 1, 2021 Faculty Meeting. Records created by CETAL prior to this date are available in the University Archives Record Group 10-2/25. CETAL was formed in 2013 to replace the Mellon Center Advisory Committee and to absorb the teaching and learning functions of the discontinued Teaching and Learning Round Table (TLTR).
