Abstract

Relationships can make or break your Middle School experience. I used check-ins, personal conversations and a getting to know you activities to create a foundation and community in my student teaching classroom. With data from 76 6th grade students from a rural Illinois town, most of these students have already built relationships amongst themselves. I have found that building these relationships has created a more inclusive environment with open communication. Looking at Newbery 2010 and Zandvliet, den Brook, Mainhard, and van Tartwijk 2014; this is not a new concept in the Education world. In this study I looked at how student-teacher relationships created an interactive and fostering environment.
