Emeritus Professor of History Paul Bushnell presented a Back to College Class during Illinois Wesleyan's Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.

Abstract

Is our praise of the Founding Fathers sincere, or is it praise of ourselves? How can we find a meaningful past if we do not have a ladder of memory that connects us to our own pasts? How can a nation of immigrants have such dismissive attitudes toward immigrants, or is this another manifestation of our heritage of attitudes toward color? We have to confront our failures as well as our achievements. ~ Professor Bushnell retired in April after a 47-year career of teaching.
