When TLTR was formed in 1996, its three most important goals were supporting initiatives to develop the effective use of technology in teaching and scholarship, advising the administration on policies and procedures pertaining to information technology, and serving as a liaison among the various university constituencies involved with information technology and resources. The University Archives holds records of this group beginning in 2004 and ending with the January 11, 2011 minutes available here.
With support from several other faculty and administrative bodies, the group announced a recommendation to disband in the January 1, 2013 Faculty Meeting and proposed the formation of a University Technology Forum (UTF) and Council for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETAL). They further recommended a faculty-held position of Technology Fellow (see p. 15-22 of the January 14, 2013 Faculty Meeting minutes).
In its October 26, 2021 minutes, Nominating Committee announced that UTF was being disbanded due to "the establishment of the Information Technology Governance Committee." Information about UTF activities may be found by searching the Faculty and Staff Governance series.
The motion passed at the February 4, 2013 Faculty Meeting (see p. 3 of the March 4, 2013 Faculty Meeting minutes).
The central mission of the CETAL is to support teaching and learning at IWU by fostering pedagogical development of IWU faculty. The council advises the Associate Dean on matters related to teaching and learning and is key in coordinating pedagogical initiatives with other bodies such as Curriculum Council (CC), Faculty Development Committee (FDC), the Writing Program, the Assessment Committee, and the Council on University Programs and Policies (CUPP).
CETAL's minutes are primarily comprised of event announcements and are held, in print, in the University Archives. The group regularly provides substantive reports which are available in the Faculty Meeting minutes.
