From its inception in 2001, Freeman-ASIA has made study abroad in East and Southeast Asia possible for over 5,000 U.S. undergraduates from more than 600 institutions. Provided through the generous support of the Freeman Foundation, the scholarship program aims to further strengthen the bonds of friendship between the United States and the countries of East and Southeast Asia by supporting U.S. students with a demonstrated financial need. Students gain a deeper understanding of the different cultures, economies, systems and values prevalent in the region, and award recipients are required to share their experiences with their home campuses or communities.

Illinois Wesleyan began offering the Freeman Asia scholarship in 2015, and since that time 149 students have participated in the program. This collection contains posters, presentations, and blogs created by Illinois Wesleyan students who shared their experiences in East and Southeast Asia, to encourage others to participate in study abroad and contribute to a greater understanding about the region.
