A major in German was available at IWU from 1895-2019. The departmental website once explained, "our program guides students as they explore 'what it means to be human' through the lens of the German cultural tradition. While doing so, students gain interdisciplinary expertise in German-speaking countries, fluency in German, critical thinking skills, and intercultural communication skills." Students could also "Gain practical vocabulary and life skills and an advanced level in our upper-level courses and on one of our study-abroad programs. Trace German roots in Illinois. Learn the flexibility that comes from study abroad and a degree at one of the top liberal arts schools."

The collection here contains Honor Projects completed by this program's students. Additional information is available in the University Archives and Special Collections.
