Abstract
According to a 2002 report by the Illinois Wesleyan GREENetwork (formerly, the Green Task Force) and a 2008 Sierra Student Coalition study, between four and five hundred pounds of food waste is disposed of on a daily basis at Illinois Wesleyan. This means that over the course of the academic year, IWU throws out approximately 100,000-125,000 pounds of food waste! While traditionally viewed as trash, much of what fills the garbage bags that leave our cafeteria are in fact still a usable part of the nutrient cycle.
