Abstract
A Reiki practitioner’s main technique is to tap into the Universal energy source to heal people. To do this, Reiki healers create an atmosphere of deep relaxation for their clients. They also ensure anyone can experience deep relaxation while assisting them in loving and caring for their inner-self. This research focuses on the training, techniques, and philosophy of a Reiki Master in Bloomington-Normal to better understand the many ways it can improve livelihood. This study will also provide a more personal perspective of a Reiki Master from their start in Reiki and how they improve their clients' lives. This research will include a visual representation of them and their work along with an ethnographic interview which expresses their personal experience in the world of Reiki as a complementary and alternative option for health. Further research was done to further understand Reiki with current relevant and peer-reviewed literature. Data collected through visual ethnographic methods illustrates the experience, skills, and understanding of Reiki. It provides relaxation for a variety of health related concerns, therefore understanding and witnessing Reiki as a medical practice will allow it to become accessible and socially accepted as a form of healing. Understanding Reiki from the point of view of a Reiki practitioner provides a personal experience into the evolving world of healing practices.
