Abstract
“Noguez Sports” is a portfolio of sports writing I have created throughout this spring semester in collaboration with Illinois Wesleyan University’s Athletic Communications, Illinois Wesleyan University’s student-run newspaper, The Argus, and the Bloomington Bison hockey club. All the curated pieces have been published and edited on their respective sites. My presentation will demonstrate the professional-level work I have been able to achieve. I will showcase a variety of different types of writing styles—including press releases, game previews, game recaps, and creative feature stories—in order to highlight the broad scope that sports writing is, to reveal the different demands of each of these genres, and to discuss my writing and publishing process.
