This recording was transferred from two CDs with individual tracks and joined in-house by archives staff in 2023. The date on the CDs was August 31, 2005. A September 9, 2005 Argus article about Schmied states that the memorial took place in Shirk on August 30th. Abstract

Schmied, who was co-captain of the Titan football team, died of heatstroke during a preseason practice. Speakers at this event are President Richard Wilson, Head Football Coach Norm Eash. Co-captains senior Levi Derber, senior Tom Kudyba and senior Kevin Maliszewski, spoke after Eash. Teammate and co-captain, senior Damon Banks and Pastor Ed Gray also spoke. Schmied's parents, Laura and Michael, were the last people to speak at the service.
