Strategic Planning

In October 2004, a Strategic Planning Steering Committee, appointed by President Richard F. Wilson, received the following charge: "To develop a planning document of no more than 12 to 15 pages by May 2005 that (1) presents a vision for the University over the next 5 to 10 years; (2) identifies 6 to 8 major goals emerging from this vision; and (3) develops a number of strategies that, if pursued vigorously and well, will allow the community to achieve its goals. In the course of this work, the SPSC will identify both quantitative and qualitative indicators for measuring progress, although that effort is not the primary focus of the committee's work for the year. The committee will also suggest timelines for reviewing progress, reporting results to the campus community, and renewing the plan as the University accomplishes some goals and discovers others." SPBC became the successor to the Strategic Planning Steering Committee in August 2005 (see Work Group document dated August 30, 2005 for details on the revised committee structure). The most recent, complete strategic plan - "IWU 2020" - was issued in 2014 under President Wilson. That document can be found in the list of PDFs below.

In 2016, President Eric Jensen revised the charge of the SPBC, stating in an email dated August 17, 2016: "To increase transparency regarding budgeting, I will be forming a President’s Advisory Committee (PAC) this fall. The Strategic Planning and Budgeting Committee (SPBC) will continue, but with a tighter focus on the strategic plan." With that revision the number of meetings per semester decreased (see November 7, 2017 minutes below). In its September 28, 2017 minutes, CUPP stated that PAC would begin submitting reports at the General Faculty Meeting effective November 6, 2017. These groups distributed no separate records of their own to the IWU community in 2018. See https://digitalcommons.iwu.edu/facgov_meet for any summaries of their activities.

In fall of 2018, President Jensen then changed this group to the Strategic Planning Coordination Committee (SPCC) in fall 2018 and tasked it with beginning a strategic planning process which was scheduled to conclude in October 2019. A Strategic Planning Steering Committee began coordination of these activities June 10, 2019 and announced a new structure in July 18, 2019 (see dated memos below). Upon President Jensen's departure in 2019, President Nugent directed the strategic planning, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 Pandemic in early 2020.
