Marie Giusti has been named the 2016 recipient of the Max L. Starkey Award at Illinois Wesleyan University. President Eric Jensen announced the award winner Aug. 26 at the annual Faculty-Staff Breakfast. “Marie is always patient, kind, knowledgeable and hardworking, but this year she truly showed her mettle,” wrote one nominator. “She worked tirelessly to help all faculty members transition from the old health care policy to the new one. She answered all questions, was organized and methodical, and never rushed anyone…she showed genuine concern for everyone who was making an often confusing transition. I think this extra work – for us – should be acknowledged.”

  • This year’s Starkey Award winner was praised for working countless hours to help others, going above and beyond expectations.
  • He or she is described as “always patient, kind, knowledgeable and hardworking;” with “quiet excellence” that makes life easier for other members of the IWU community. This person isn’t the type to call attention to themselves, but is “supremely competent,” “willing and eager to help,” and someone who will go the extra mile to support IWU faculty and staff.
  • This year’s Starkey Award winner is a sports fan who roots for the green & gold in winter, and the red & white in summer.
  • A Titan for almost 20 years, this person is continually active in the campus community, from Wellness classes to Cookie Bake-offs.
  • Praised by nominators for “tranquility” under stressful job situations, in private life this year’s winner is an adventurer – from skydiving to kissing the Blarney Stone.
  • During a year of transition at Illinois Wesleyan, she was praised for soothing anxieties and personally addressing individual faculty and staff questions and concerns.
  • She looked after our health, calmly guiding us through complex decisions under the new insurance plans.
  • This year’s winner is Marie Giusti, Human Resources Representative.
