Description
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is a musical adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar's beloved 1988 film of the same name. The musical version of the Spanish black-comedy drama was adapted by Jeffery Lane, with music and lyrics by David Yazbeck. Described as both touching and hilarious, WOMEN on the VERGE… is a story about women and their complicated relationships with the men in their lives. Mayhem and comic madness abound, balanced by the empathy and heart that are tradeMarcs of Almodóvar's work.
The musical was directed by visiting artist Andy Park, the founding artistic director of Chicago’s Quest Theatre Ensemble, choreography by dance educator and IWU choreographer Sheri Marley, with music director Saul Nache, Instructor in Music Theatre. Curtis Trout, Professor of Theatre Arts designed the set, costumes designed by Jennifer Oswald ’15, lighting by Stephen Sakowski, and sound designed by Toby Jaguar Algya. The cast included: Brittany Ambler ’15, Jordan Lipes ’15, Halimah Nurullah ’15, Ian Stewart ’15, Kelsey Bearman ’16, Heather Priedhorsky ’15, Haley Miller ’17, Carlos Medina Maldonado ’16, Eli Miller ’17, Sarah Menke ’15, Maggie Patchett’16, Chris Long ’16, Evan Rumler’16 and Priscilla Moy ’15 as assistant choreographer.
