Abstract
This paper examines cultural appropriation as a modern phenomenon and how it is perceived by those in the arts and humanities. It critiques cultural appropriation based on its hindering of artistic expression and by employing a deeper understanding of cultural history as argued by scholars Brian Morton and Rhiannon Giddens.
