Abstract
What impact does Big Data and algorithm-driven pattern recognition have on our cultural development? What is the social scientist's role in studying the human condition in the era of Big Data? This lecture addresses these questions by tracing the development of pattern recognition in human evolution, charting the growth of accelerated, external pattern recognition, and then considering the potential cultural impacts associated with the era of analytics, algorithms, and Big Data.
