Course Catalog Description

The nervous system is akin to a complex machine. Because there is great value in understanding how machines are built and constructed, this course will center around the complex processes of making neurons and glial cells as well as how they become incorporated and patterned throughout the vertebrate body to bring about nervous function. The course will focus on famous and recent experimental studies that serve as the basis of our understanding of these processes. You will become knowledgeable in the key, conserved signaling molecules that form, shape and maintain the nervous system.
