Abstract
The Academic Standards (AS) sub-committee of Curriculum Council (CC) has been charged to address problems and deficiencies with the writing sequence in the General Education program. This sequence consists of a first-year Gateway and two flagged Writing Intensive (WI) courses, one of which must be a course in the student's major. AS has decided to address the problems and deficiencies with Gateway fist because we believe the chronic staffing problems with Gateway require immediate attention. This document is thus concerned only with amending the first-year writing experience. Proposals concerning the WI courses, which will address the training and supervision of WI instructors as well as the role of the Writing Center, will be forthcoming.
