Abstract

The purpose of this research synthesis is to explore effective evidence-based practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training. DEI is the practice of fair treatment and participation of all people, especially people who have been historically under-represented or discriminated against, to create a more diverse and inclusive workplace (Creary, Rothbard & Scruggs, 2021). After conducting a two-step research approach, under the DEI framework, DEI is used to create inclusive environments in the workplace that create a sense of unity between all people in the workplace. DEI training considers all peoples backgrounds, religious affiliations, morals, values, ethnicity and more. When all the previously stated considerations are brought to the forefront, DEI training creates clear boundaries and sets rules in place to create a welcoming and inclusive community within the workplace (Kim & Robertson, 2022). The understanding of effective practices best suited for DEI training is proven to have a more effective workplace that creates better communication between coworkers and through the lines of executives within the company (Creary et al., 2021). Effective practices of DEI training also enhances workplace effectiveness, because of the ability to create more relationships within the company (Creary et al., 2021). Deep diving on how a DEI training works and how it is used to train individuals and a company as a whole will produce an overall understanding of what DEI is and how they can use that in their everyday lives in the workplace and company.
