Abstract

"Exploring the Past and Educating the Future" is centered around my past, present, and future experiences in school. More specifically, it focuses on the experiences that inspired me to go into teaching, my hopes and fears for my future career, how student teaching impacted me, and even perspectives from retired and current teachers. The work comprises various mediums, including poems, flash non-fiction, short stories, and more. I created this body of work to reflect on my identity and life experiences, and how they have led me to this point in my life–less than three months shy of earning a degree in Secondary Education. I also created this project as an ode to educators to highlight their contributions and significance in the lives of their students. Ultimately, I hope this project reaches teachers to show them how much they are appreciated and to remind them through my experiences why we choose to educate young minds.
