Illinois Wesleyan will honor Joanne M. Miller, Class of 1973, with the annual School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award. Miller, who recently obtained a $1.2 million three-year grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is an associate professor and specialty coordinator for the Adult Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurse Programs at Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago. She is a certified nurse practitioner and an active researcher, particularly in the field of geriatric medicine. Miller is also a prolific publisher of medical-related material and actively presents at national and international venues. The award ceremony, which will feature Miller's address, "Who's in Charge? Promoting Older Adult Health", will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. She has received multiple awards for her numerous accomplishments including the Professional Development and Teaching Innovation Awards at Rush, the Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Phi Clinical Research Award and the John A. Harford Foundation Grant, to name a few. Miller is also a frequent volunteer for the Alzheimer's Disease Memory Walk, CROP walk for World Church Service to feed the hungry and health fairs for older adults.
