Custodian- Physical Plant

Description

Angel Garcia is the 2013 winner of the Max L. Starkey Service Award at Illinois Wesleyan University. The announcement was made by President Richard F. Wilson at the Fall Breakfast held today [August 23] in the Young Main Lounge of Memorial Center. Garcia, a resident of Normal, is a veteran custodian of over twenty years for IWU’s Shirk Center. His co-workers and many members of the IWU community have taken note of his dedication to his job and his commitment to being friendly and going the extra mile to make IWU a better place.

And now, this year’s clues…

  • This year's Starkey Award winner, a nominator wrote, is someone whose dedication, attitude and pride are to be emulated by us all.
  • This individual treats everyone with respect, and always has a smile, helping hand or pleasant comment to offer.
  • This employee interacts as easily with emeritus faculty as with first-year students.
  • They have been described as “professional and courteous, and a first-class citizen of the university."
  • His excellent work standards and special touches in performing his job are appreciated by many a fellow fighting Titan.
  • If cleanliness is next to godliness, then this year's winner keeps the Shirk Center looking downright celestial. He clearly cares both for the facility and for those who use it.
  • You could say his dedication to Illinois Wesleyan is heavenly.
  • I would now like to ask Angel Garcia, Custodian – Physical Plant to come forward as our 2013 Starkey Award winner.
