Abstract
"mother wound" is a Pillow Book-style anthology that includes a series of storytelling in the form of poetry and prose. The creative work offers snapshots of life in the Middle East and explores the idea of collective community and generational relationships. With Arabic and Muslim cultural references, this collection delves into themes of love in a globalized world and investigates the role of the "mother wound" as the origin of love and pain that is passed down. Filled with observational work and memoirist tales, "mother wound" uses both the past and the present to shed light on how the human experience is interwoven with colonization and white supremacy. It explores the idea that love and joy is a form of resistance against colonial power, and pays homage to the "motherland." The central narrator, who occasionally tells the story of others, as well, utilizes a stream of consciousness to build her world of romance, grief and anger, and incorporates dedication to the full authentic and genuine self.
