Abstract

The Pui Pui Protected Forest is located in central Peru, was created in 1985, and covers 60,000 hectares (30% montane forest, 70% puna habitats) between 1700 and 4500 m elevation. Herpetological surveys by E. Lehr and colleagues started in 2012 and ended in 2014 with the discovery of six new species of Pristimantis. Evaluation of a still unidentified series of Pristimantis collected by E. Lehr and J. Moravec in the Pui Pui Protected Forest between 2013 and 2014 revealed that this series presents two unknown species. Herein, we provide diagnostic features for both new species (Pristimantis sp. nov. 1; Pristimantis sp. nov. 2) and compare them with similar species from Peru.
